Pokémon G/S Remake!

It seems that Nintendo are trying there best to get old pokemon fans back up to date with there latest edition of a remake. Yes it’s the one that all fans have been waiting for a long time the beloved Gold & Silver!

Although I do not think that there has been an official announcement by Nintendo (There may have been) the box art looks very genuine! But this may not be true because the box art was released very quickly so please don’t see this as an official announcement as this may just be a fake but I bet my money that its probably true.

About the game: the remake will be on Nintendo DS and will feature the loved Nintendo Wi-Fi System. Well that’s all we know so far but like a have previously stated this may be just a fake so pleased lets not get hyped about this until Nintendo announce its true

Darkrai Giveaway (JPN)

In other Pokemon news from Japan, a Darkrai giveaway has been announced.

Local Mystery Gift will be used to distribute legendary Pokémon.

The method for Japanese players of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl to obtain the legendary Pokémon Darkrai was revealed recently, according to a flier posted by Filb.de. Darkrai will be distributed to attendees of the 10th Pokémon movie, Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai, via local Mystery Gift at Japanese movie theaters July 14 through Sept. 9.

The item to unlock an island in the games where Darkrai can be caught, the Member's Pass, will apparently not be distributed. Instead, players will directly download the Pokémon with Mystery Gift. Darkrai will be inside a Cherish Ball (プレジャスボール Precious Ball), a normally unobtainable Poké Ball, and will be holding an Enigma berry, also normally unobtainable. Darkrai will have a Classic Ribbon (クラシックリボン) and will know the moves Roar of Time and Spacial Rend, moves normally exclusive to Dialga and Palkia, respectively.

According to our friend Zhenlin over at BMG, the June 2007 issue of CoroCoro reveals new details about the upcoming sequel to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (ポケモンの不思議のダンジョン).

Sequels subtitled Time Expedition and Darkness Expedition

There will be two versions, as before, subtitled Time Expedition (時の探検隊) and Darkness Expedition (闇の探検隊), which will be released this fall. As previously noted, this is the first time that Chunsoft is making a sequel to a Mystery Dungeon game involving licensed characters other than Torneko or Chocobo.

The premise of this game, as suggested by the subtitles, is that of exploration, as opposed to rescue in the original Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. The impetus appears to be a stone fragment which is thought to form the gateway to legendary locations and/or treasure. As before, the player is subjected to a personality test at the beginning of the game, which determines which Pokémon the player will be in the Pokémon world. Among the 16 available player characters are Munchlax, Pikachu, Piplup, Chimchar and Turtwig.

A new game mechanic is guilds. In order to form a great exploration party, the player must train, and to train, the player must enter a guild. The guild master is a Wigglytuff, and its right-hand man is a noisy Chatot. Other guild members include a Bidoof. On the other hand, as in all previous Mystery Dungeon games, the defining feature is the random dungeons players execute their quests in.

Cartoon Network will air 17 consecutive hours (34 episodes) each day of Pokémon reruns spanning eight seasons June 2-3, 2007, according to Toon Zone's schedules.

Episodes will begin airing each day at 6 a.m. EDT and will continue to air until the Adult Swim programming block begins at 11 p.m. EDT each day.

Every non-Adult Swim hour to feature random episodes from eight seasons

While June 2's episodes are listed on the Toon Zone Web site, only one episode for June 3 is listed at this time, but the marathon will continue that day through season eight, according to sources.

The episodes selected have no apparent connection or order.

Update:

The June schedule for Cartoon Network has been posted. The first weekend of June will be a Pokemon Marathon on Cartoon Network.

"For every non-Adult Swim hour of the 2nd and the 3rd, Cartoon Network will be airing Pokemon episodes from Seasons 1-9. These include episodes from the fourth and sixth seasons which CN never got around to airing for some reason.

Red Central, the creative resource for the entertainment industry, announces that it has been commissioned to produce the first European style guide for the kid’s super-brand Pokémon.

Pokemon launches European branding guide for a new era

The Pokémon franchise over 10 years has seen mammoth international success have been built on the content introduced in just three core computer games. After a four-year wait, the next instalments – Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl – are about to launch, bringing with them new characters, new movies and a new TV series.

Red Central’s brief is to achieve a look for the new Pokémon Diamond and Pearl style guide that retains the classic Pokémon style while introducing the new characters and content with a freshness that will shunt the brand to the cutting-edge of children’s entertainment. With a wide range of fans, the branding will be aimed at a core target of boys aged 6 – 12, but with some designs aimed at tween girls, as well as classic characters for people that have grown up with Pokémon and will want to re-visit it.

Licensing Manager at Pokémon UK, Rekha Rajput, explains: "Pokémon Diamond and Pearl will thrust our brand right back to the forefront of children’s minds across Europe, and we strongly felt that a landmark of this magnitude deserved its own European-specific style guide.

A style guide is a publication which specifies details of writing style required by a particular publishing house or professional organization, including such matters as punctuation, capitalization, fonts and styles, imagery, and rules for citing references. In celebrating the 10th anniversary of Pokémon and Pokémon's past, the official Japanese movie website has posted old movie trailers from movies one through eight. All of the trailers contain scenes that were made only for the trailers, and were not included in the actual movie. It is also worth mentioning that these were not the only trailers made for each movie - each Pokemon movie has at least three different trailers made for them over time, with each trailer being released as the movie comes closer to completion (we already have two trailers for the 10th Pokémon movie, Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai, and there is bound to be at least one more before it is released in July in Japan). The trailers on the website appear to be the second trailers released for each movie, not the first or the last, so there are scenes that were made for the movies in them, and scenes that were not. Nintendo of America has just revealed it's sold one million copies of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl in a mere five days. That's enough to make it the nation's fastest-selling Pokémon title ever.

Nintendo's decade-long campaign to take over the world with Pokémon seems to be reaching its final stages. Since the collect-'em-up first appeared in 1995, it has sold 155 million copies, and sent the world and the chattering classes through various paroxysms as Pokémon fever has waxed and waned.

April 26, 2007 - One of the video game industry's most celebrated franchises is officially hotter than ever. Within just five days of availability, more than 1 million copies of Pokémon® Diamond and Pokémon Pearl for the portable Nintendo DS™ have sold in the United States since Sunday's launch; a faster rate than any previous Pokémon games since the franchise's U.S. introduction, almost a decade ago. To date, more than 155 million copies of Pokémon games have sold worldwide.

Japanese Pokémon Diamond and Pearl players are making what seem to be strange trades with American players, giving up semi-decent or hard-to-catch creatures in exchange for such lowly drones such as "Magikarp." (Even if you don't play Pokémon, it's obvious that anything named "Magikarp" is lametown.)
This is great news for gaijin gamers, but why is it happening?

A "Quarter to Three" forum poster who goes by "DeathMonkey" offers a hypothesis: "I believe Japanese players will make unbelievably great deals simply to have Pokémon with an English name." Such a name, notes DeathMonkey, would be impossible to create in the Japanese version of the software, just as American players are unable to use a Japanese alphabet when naming their own digital beasties.

Using the new worldwide trading system in Pokémon Diamond, I acquired two each of the three starting Pokemon. This is remarkable because players are only given access to one of the three at the beginning of the game and they can't catch any more during the game. The only way to get more of them is to breed them, which is labor intensive and probably takes over 30 minutes of play time to create. In previous Pokemon games I've played, I've never had a starting Pokémon other than the one that I chose at the beginning of the game.

So what did I trade online to get all these starting Pokémon?

MagiCarp, one of the worst(*) and most common Pokémon in the game.

How did I get relatively rare Pokémon that takes over 30 minutes to acquire in exchange for one that takes me less than 2 minutes to catch?

All the Pokémon that I've received in trades have been Japanese, which makes sense because they've had the game for over 6 months already. Many have probably completed the game. Breeding starter Pokémon is one of the most common types to reproduce, so it's understandable that they would have starters available for trade.

But why for MagiCarp? Don't they suck? And why haven't the Japanese traded each other MagiCarps for 6 months? What makes mine valuable?

I believe it's because my Pokémon have English names. I believe Japanese players will make unbelievably great deals simply to have Pokémon with an English name.

Japanese players can't enter English characters for their Pokemon names. (And American players can't enter Japanese text.) English words are "cool" for some reason in Japan and since they need American players to trade their Pokemon to get ones with English names, they will make excellent deals (for Americans) to get English-named Pokémon. I believe the game has also sold around 6 million copies in Japan and probably about a million in the US so far, so, theoretically, the demand far outstrips the supply at this point, making sellers market.

I read about people making these crazy global trades on NeoGAF and didn't believe it until I tried it myself. Sure enough, it works. Quickly too, it probably takes about an hour before one of my trades is complete. I don't know when the Japanese market will be saturated with English-named Pokemon, but right now the market is hot. It seems that the Japanese will give almost any Pokemon that is easy to breed for an early game catch-em-in-the-dozens Pokemon with an English name.

I love thinking about game economies and I (obviously) find this situation fascinating. Nintendo's simple decision to not allow Japanese players to enter English text has created this strange anomaly where the value of an object is dramatically changed by the characters used in its name.

Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Launch Party

Okay, so I just got back from the Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Launch Party, I will try to explain it like you were there!
First, I had to get up at 7, which is very early for a Sunday, then, we left for New York. The car ride there went by fast and before I knew it we were there! When we were there, first we parked and took all our stuff with us so it wouldn't get stolen, then we were off to Nintendo World!
When we finally got there we saw that they were setting up so we went in to ask them what is going to happen, in the middle of our conversation with "Dawn" we were rudely kicked out by the stupid made up Professor what's his name (the name was made up).
So, we went in the Nintendo World Store. I took a bunch of pictures in there and you could basically create a virtual Nintendo World. I got a bunch of stuff like shirts, hats, Pokémon Cards, a PokéDoll and other trinkets.
It was still not time for the Launch Party, and the store was crowded so we left for lunch (MISTAKE!) We went to a restaurant and ate. When we came back there was a line to get in the area 3 blocks long! So we waited. What we should have done was one of us waited while other got sandwiches at the nearby deli. So in a an hour and a half we went in and boy was it crowded!
It was fun though! Let's see what there was, first there was a stage, they had battles, and talks with the Japanese creators. They had a activity booth with coloring. Next, there was a place where you could watch a show answer questions and enter a raffle to win god knows what! (It was probably the Pokémon DS lite). Now, there was a place where you could play the Pokémon Games, a place with a scavenger hint that you could get a pin after you filled out the sheet. There was also a place where you could play the Pokémon TCG. The last booth was giving out masks, tattoos, and seeds (for Earth Day). The last, and greatest thing, was meet the creators. We waited an hour to meet them and they said that we might not even see them! Did I mention it was hot and sweaty, well, it was! The lead designer signed my DS and the director signed a post card. Also the lead designer shook my hand and I got a picture of him, the first people were allowed to get a ton of things signed and picture with him.
Also, the Pikachu car was there and I got a picture with it and people in line were handing out flyers to save the dub! Wow, I thought that was over!
And that was basically it, if I think of more I'll post in bullets.

New Pokémon Movie Trailer

The official Japanese Pokémon movie website revealed a new trailer and a new teaser for the 10th Pokemon movie: "Pokémon Diamond and Pearl: Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai." This is the second trailer released, and the third teaser released (which is just a shortened version of the second trailer).

Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Hits 1/2 a Million on Pre-Orders

Pre-orders for the upcoming Pokémon® Diamond and Pokémon® Pearl video games for the portable Nintendo DS™ have topped one half million in the United States, and Nintendo is advising fans to brace themselves for the next wave of Poké-mania. Based on the huge pre-sales for Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, Nintendo expects them to be among the top-selling games for all of 2007.

With four days to go until they arrive, more than 533,000 pre-orders have been taken for Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl. Already these games have more than doubled the pre-sale numbers of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen, which launched in 2004. Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen went on to sell more than 3.4 million combined in North America.

Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl have consistently ranked among the top-selling video game products on Amazon.com, and there are still four days until launch.

Pokémon became a nationwide hit the instant it arrived in the United States in 1998. Pokémon Silver Experience

Today, as of this moment there is No PokéNews but I wanted to leave you with this:

Yesterday I ofinally found one of my old GameBoy Colors and Pokémon Silver Version. When I started it up this morning I noticed the "CONTINUE" option wasn't there. So, I started a new game and saved and everything after talking to Prof. Elm, and when I started up my game again, the "CONTINUE" option wasn't there!
Did you know that this is a known problem, if you go to Wikipedia.org and go to their Pokémon silver Version article, 3.1 is the battery failure section. I guarntee you if you get your Silver Cartridge right now and start it up in a GameBoy Color, there is a 80% chance it is DEAD!
That's what happend to mine, it is very common after having your cartridge for six years.

This is something I wanted to post a long time ago. Recently in my study hall I brought my DS with Pokémon Diamond and played it the whole class. People started to notice and remembered how fun the games were. People then started binging in their games like Red, Crystal and Fire Red and started to play it. They were loving it! They than started saying, "I'm gonna get a DS so I can play the new Pokémon games." So now in my school Pokémon is becoming popular again. When we come back from our week off, people will then have the new Pokémon games and our whole study hall can be engadged in 4-on-4 battles and having fun. I mean, do you ever do work in a study hall?

PPN has gotten got the latest TV commercial for the upcoming release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, due out on April 22, 2007.

This 'Raining PokéBalls' commercial first aired on 13 April 2007, and appears to be a much better commercial then the previous 'pre-release' one. In this commercial it rains down PokéBalls expecting the Pokémon fan to catch them and Pokémon USA brings back the tag-line "Gotta Catch 'em All" again.

Deoxys Pre-Order Bonus

Although many of you are not affected by this whatsoever, I figured you should know. As many of you know, there was a survey to decide what Pokémon should be given for pre-booking a ticket for the 10th Movie, the winner was Deoxys. However, this Deoxys is a rather unique one, different to the ones you would get on Birth Island on FR, LG or Emerald. Firstly, Deoxys is inside the long coveted Cherish Ball. This ball is not actually found anywhere in the game. It has the same Capture Rate as Pokéballs, it just makes quite an entrance whenever a Pokémon is sent out in it. This Deoxys is at Level 50, has a special ribbon and strangely holds the Item; NeverMeltIce. It knows the attacks; Psycho Boost, Zap Cannon, Iron Defense & Extremespeed. One attack from each form of Deoxys. Very handy indeed.

Pokémon Battrio Update

The Japanese toy manufacturer, Tomy, has a created a new Pokemon arcade game called "Pokémon Battrio".

Pokemon Battrio is similar to Pokémon Battle Revolution, but will feature cell shaded graphics and 3-on-3 battling by using poker chip like discs. The arcade game will use a sensor to pick up the data from the discs and show the Pokemon on the arcade's screen where players can battle it out. There will be 36 different Pokémon available when it will be launched, but more will be added on later on. Players can arrange the different Pokemon in different formations, which is an important aspect of the game play. Players can battle against another player, or can play a single player mode against a CPU opponent.

Pokémon Battrio will be available in Japan in July 2007, and will cost 100 Yen per play (which converted in US currency, is about 83 cents).

IGN has the Goods!

That's right folks. Corporate gaming websites like IGN have already received their English retail copies of Pokémon Diamond/Pearl, straight to their DSs.

April 12, 2007 - Early this morning a large package from Nintendo of America arrived at our doorstep. Inside was what could be considered the crown jewels of the Nintendo DS library: early retail copies of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, along with extra goodies that come independent of the games purchased.

We're currently cranking down on coverage of the games, but we thought you'd enjoy a taste of what you'll get when you run out and buy a copy of the game. Remember, if you hit the retail chains now and put some cash down on a copy before the April 22nd release, you'll get a free stylus. No guarantees if they'll still be around when the games hit shelves, so might as well grab the freebies now if you're going to buy it anyway.

Earlier today a new arcade game for Pokémon was revealed called Pokémon Battrio. This arcade game is made by Tomy and utilizes specialized coins in order to utilize different Pokémon. With this, you can battle other people in massive glory.

This game is cell-shaded and acts like an arcade version of Pokémon Battle Revolution. This also brings a new Pokémon Mechanic in. Instead of 2 on 2, you can now have 3 on 3 battles. Expect more on this arcade game soon!

The title of the 500th episode of the Pokémon anime series has been announced. WOW 500 episodes!

The 500th episode title is, in Japanese: スキです！ポケモンなりきり大会!! and, roughly translated into English, is: It's Love! Turning into Pokemon Convention!! and will be DP 33 set to air in Japan on 10 May 2007.

The Pokémon Ranger DVD was released today, and the aspect ratio of the film was kept in widescreen, like its original Japanese release (and its airing on Cartoon Network). It seems as if there will be no more cropped, defaced full screen American Pokemon DVDs anymore (unless they were originally drawn in full screen, like all Pokemon episodes)! The DVD also contained a Diamond and Pearl anime commercial, revealing that the first Diamond and Pearl season will begin airing Monday, June 4th, on Cartoon Network. Look forward to it!

In April, 1997, the Pocket Monsters (Pokémon) anime premiered in Japan. Next month marks the 10 year anniversary since its broadcast premiere, and Rica Matsumoto has been performing the role of Satoshi the entire time.

Special events planned for 10th anniversary

Speaking to Yomiuri Shinbun, she said,
"It's been 10 years, hasn't it? But, it doesn't feel it's been that long. It's like Satoshi and I are doing this together. From the beginning, I wanted to perform, and I knew I wanted to do work that let others have fun."

Beginning in her late teens, and under the guidance of her father, the chairman of a stage troupe, she began working in theatrical productions. As she continued to work in stage productions, she became ill with tuberculosis. It took a long time to recover, and in that time, friends and colleagues suggested other ways she could perform, such as voice acting. She auditioned for a 1988 TV series called Osomatsu-kun, and thus started her voice acting career. In the late 90s, she saw an audition for the role of Satoshi, which was only described as "A young boy's voice, that is also a singer."

"Satoshi is always coming up with funny things to say, such as 'Pajama wa jama' (Pajamas are a menace!), as well as lots of gags. It's what attracted me to the type of character."

When the Pokémon broadcast began, the games increased the show's popularity. Initial ratings on TV Tokyo were 10.2%, but increased to 18.6% by November, the highest-rated show on the network at the time. The first Japanese Pokemon theme song, "Mezase Pokemon Master!" ("Arise, Pokemon Master!") sold over 1.8 million CDs. But then, a disaster occurred -- in December 1997, Pokemon rose to international attention when bright flashes during "Electric Soldier Porygon" caused epileptic seizures in hundreds of children. During a 4-month nationwide suspension of the show, there were sporadic gatherings of fans, some of whom sang the theme song.

"The children's eyes were shining. Everyone sang the theme song. They wanted the show to start broadcasting again; it was a thought from the heart."

Pokémon returned to television the following April and has been airing ever since. The third Pokémon series, "Diamond/Pearl" began airing last September. In North America, Europe and beyond, more than 68 countries are airing Pokemon or its sequel series. Beyond the TV screen, the 10th Pokemon movie is also set to premiere in Japan this year. To commemorate the 10th anniversary, a series of events are planned. On March 29th, 2007, a one-hour special will air on TV Tokyo. The following week, April 5th will feature a 2-hour special.

Matsumoto finished by saying, "Knowing that children are happy about Pokémon makes me glad. To everyone who likes Pokemon, I hope you continue to enjoy it!"

Mysterious Dungeon Sequel

Just a small update concerning the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon sequel. As reported by Famitsu and Dengeki Online, Japanese gaming sites, confirms that the release date for Japan will be sometime this year in 2007. There will be two versions for the DS, and it will support Wi-Fi.

To celebrate the announcement, the official Japanese Pokémon website announced that the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Special: Team Go-Getters Out of the Gate will be available for viewing online (the Japanese version). A New Mysterious Dungeon Set?

Different from Diamond & Pearl, this new entry isn't one of the main RPG entries in the Pokemon franchise (most notably, it isn't the expected third entry in the Diamond & Pearl series). Instead, developer Chunsoft is once again taking on the license for an as-yet unnamed dual SKU release set for Japan some time this year.

Chunsoft previously worked on Pokémon Mysterious Dungeon, a dual SKU release that hit Japan in late 2005 (followed by international releases in 2006), with one entry coming to the DS and one to the Game Boy Advance. This unexpected pairing of the Mysterious Dungeon series with Pokemon was a huge worldwide hit, selling over 5.5 million copies.

This time, both versions of the game will be on the DS, allowing Chunsoft to further take advantage of the DS's unique feature set. The game will make better use of the dual screens, and will even include Wi-Fi support. The game's designers are hoping to give players the feeling of playing with others.

That's all we know at this point. It's unclear if the new game will be a Mysterious Dungeon title. But we're pretty sure it will have Pokemon, and that should be good enough! With a 2007 release, specifics shouldn't be too far off.

CoroCoro, a Japanese gaming magazine, announced in their current April issue that a new Pokémon game will be revealed in the next issue (the Coro Coro May issue). As it was previously announced a few months ago, Nintendo would be giving out free Stylus to any person who pre-orders Pokémon Diamond or Pokemon Pearl, before its release date later next month.

CARTOON NETWORK Schedule Correcction

The premiere of Pokémon Diamond/Pearl will not be aired on March 10, as previously speculated. Cartoon Network's schedule originally listed a new episode (but no episode title) to be aired on March 10th, at 9:30 AM. This lead to the belief that the Pokémon Diamond/Pearl series will be premiere at that time slot. However, that time slot was later left blank on the schedule. And now, CartoonNetwork.com's schedule currently lists "Fear Factor Phony!" (the first episode of Pokémon: Battle Frontier) as the March 10th, 9:30 AM time slot.

Pokemon Ranger and the Prince of the Sea
